Sharon Art Studio Arts & Crafts

What is the Sharon Art Studio Arts & Crafts?

As the largest public community art center in San Francisco, the Sharon Art Studio allows children and adults the chance to explore the inspirational world of art. An assortment of jewelry making, glass, ceramics, watercolor, and drawing classes keep participants interested throughout the year in various sessions held during the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Brief History

The Sharon Art Studio is a program affiliated with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. With the help of the Friends of the Sharon Art Studio (a non-profit organization established in 1991), the overall appeal of classes and workshops are enhanced. The studio is home to a collection of entertaining arts and crafts opportunities geared towards children, high school students, adults, and seniors. Each year, about 1,000 youth and 2,500 adults participate in a whirlwind of creativity.

The Art-in-the-Park summer program is also associated with Sharon Art Studio – an art enrichment curriculum for youth between the ages of 11 and 15. Since 1993, four sessions of instruction touch upon a host of artistic endeavors – delivering healthy outlets for young San Franciscans.

Membership Details

Becoming a member of the Friends of the Sharon Art Studio means you will take an active role in aiding the locals of San Francisco to connect with art. The Friends sponsor the programs at the Studio by buying needed art supplies and equipment. They also provide scholarships for youth and adults, as well as pay the program director and art instructors. As a member, you will spearhead fundraising events, grant-writing, hold auctions, and collect donations.

Membership levels start at $30 per year, which also gains you eligibility to receive reduced fees for materials and operation. Discounts at local arts and crafts stores are also an added perk.

I actually still need advice, myself!  I’m not qualified to answer that one, except to say - just film it! just keep doing it so that you develop the skills.  You’ll get better with each project.  Eventually you’ll be ready for a financially committed one.
