Who Plays Golf at Golden Gate Park?
With a history dating back to 1951, the Golden Gate Park Golf Course was initially constructed as a “Pitch and Putt” course, measuring close to 1,400 yards long. With one of the best urban park surroundings in the United States, the course accommodates beginners learning how to hold a club to the more advanced player who’d like to get a bit of practice in. During the summer, golf camps are held for any level junior player.
Playing Golf at Golden Gate Park
To enjoy the atmosphere and allure of the park, you should know there is no need to reserve tee-off times; the course works on a first-come, first-serve basis. When you are ready to take advantage of the nine holes located at Golden Gate Park, you should head for the western end of the park where you will find the entrance to the clubhouse located by 47th Avenue, which is between JFK Drive and Fulton Street. The hours of operation for the golf course and driving range is observed from ½ hour after sunrise to a ½ hour before dark. For the times when you really need to hit the greens, including during holidays, the facilities are open year-round.

Equipment Rentals
If you are without equipment or have left your clubs at home, the golf course can help provide you with the tools to perfect your swing. Golf clubs (Par 3, ½-sets) are available for the price of $8 per golfer. Pull carts can be rented at $4 per golfer. A small bucket of range balls (about 35) costs $4, while the larger bucket (around 75 balls) costs $6.
Rules of the Course
When visiting the Golden Gate Park Golf Course, you should know there are certain rules and regulations to follow as a guest, which are listed below:
a) USGA Rules: USGA rules apply to the course, which can be found at the pro shop.
b) Group Rules: Group play must stay together and avoid splitting up.
c) One Ball: When playing, only one ball is in use, meaning no practice shots are allowed.
d) No Extra Guests: On the course, only paying customers are allowed, meaning you can’t tote along a caddy or friend.
e) No Sharing: Every golfer on the course must possess clubs, putter, and a bag. Unfortunately, you can’t share your equipment with others.
f) Respect All Players: Be courteous towards players on the waiting list. Make sure that divots are fixed, traps are raked, and ball marks on the greens are erased.
